The famous Mass for the Dead by W.A. Mozart is one of the most moving works in music history. With the Baltasar Neumann Choir & Orchestra under its chief conductor Thomas Hengelbrock as well as top soloists, it is performed in beautiful original sound.

: Wiener Symphoniker / María Dueñas
Under the direction of up-and-coming conductor Marie Jacquot, the focus is entirely on Vienna as a music city: all composers on the programme were living here. A particular highlight: Beethoven’s violin concerto with the exceptional talent María Dueñas.

: 30 years Tetzlaff Quartet
If that's not a reason to celebrate: the Tetzlaff Quartet, led by star violinist Christian Tetzlaff and his sister Tanja Tetzlaff on cello, has been known for excellence ever since it was founded. They will perform music by Brahms, Schönberg and Widman.

: NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra / Robin Ticciati
The NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, directed by Robin Ticciati, takes the 200th anniversary of Anton Bruckner's birth as an opportunity to perform two of his works. His Seventh and perhaps most popular symphony meets lesser-known sacred music.

: Ivo Pogorelich / Piano Recital
He is one of the world’s most renowned pianists, an ingenious musical thinker and a profound interpreter. Ivo Pogorelich returns to the Elbphilharmonie with a virtuoso programme of Robert Schumann and Frédéric Chopin.

: Nutcracker Reimagined
Tchaikovsky’s »Nutcracker« ballet is as much a part of Christmas as the biscuits. Conductor Kristjan Järvi has rearranged the famous music and presents it with the young, highly talented Baltic Sea Philharmonic. In addition, there is Grieg and Sibelius.

It is the queen of instruments and a very special experience in the Grand Hall of the Elbphilharmonie: the organ. Over 6,000 pipes unleash great orchestral sound when Karol Mossakowski plays romantic music by true organ virtuosos.

: Händel: Jephtha
It doesn’t always have to be the »Christmas Oratorio«: With »Jephtha«, Handel wrote a fascinating oratorio full of magnificent choirs that fits just as well into Christmas time. The Monteverdi Choir Hamburg brings it to the stage with top soloists.

: Rising Stars
Firmly positioned in the starting blocks for global careers ahead: six exceptional young musicians, selected by Europe’s major concert halls, perform at the Elbphilharmonie within the space of a week.

: Amadeus, Amadeus
For an entire week, an illustrious line-up of artists honours the gigantic oeuvre of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Jordi Savall comes with the Great Mass in C minor, Mitsuko Uchida with a piano concerto and René Jacobs conducts the opera »Idomeneo«.

This splendid festival celebrating new music is entering its second round. Over the course of seven concerts, festival initiator Alan Gilbert and the outstanding radio orchestras perform 21st century music spanning the entire stylistic spectrum.

Romantic composers sound unusually light and fresh here: the Chiaroscuro Quartet plays on period instruments, as does world-class pianist Cédric Tiberghien. Alongside Brahms and Schumann, Haydn, the »forefather« of the string quartet genre, will be heard.
